Josh Tank to direct a Venom movie?

Long thought to be a dead project, the news of a Venom movie is back and making its rounds around the net. Rumor now has is that SONY is negotiating with Josh Tank, director of Chronicle, to take the reins of the film.
"A Venom film has been long-gestating at the studio, dating back at least to 2008 and preceding plans for this summer's Marc Webb-Andrew Garfield take on the character. Gary Ross negotiated to direct a Venom film back in 2009 but moved on to other projects, including the upcoming “Hunger Games.”"
Could they have finally found their director in Josh Tank? Can SONY pull this project from the mud and make it shine? I surely hope so. I love the character of Venom and would really like to see what they could do with him when he is not jammed into an already crowded movie (Spider-Man 3). It would also be a lot of fun to see if they could tie in Carnage into this franchise!

Are you excited about the possibility of a Venom film? Or does the sour taste of the character from Spider-Man 3 make you think they should just leave it alone?

  1. Sour taste, leave it alone. Topher Grace ruined it for me.

    1. I definitely agree that Topher ruined Venom and the character was awful in Spider-Man 3. Just awful.

However, as someone who really enjoys the character from the comics, I would love to see what they can do with him as the star and with a good budget. I need something to get the sour taste out of my mouth. They can't let Topher ruin him forever!

  2. They should get someone like Joaquin Phoenix or Sam Worthington to play him.
