Cosplaying is coming to an end at some theaters.

Cosplayers love to attend their favorite movies dressed up as their favorite characters to show their love and support for the franchise. However, in light of last night's events in Aurora, Colorado where a gunman entered the theater wearing a tactile vest, leggings, groin protector, throat protector, gas mask and gloves, and then killed 12 and wounding more than 50 innocent movie goers, certain movie theaters are beginning to change their costume policies in order to protect their guests. The first to announce a change in their costume policy is AMC theaters.
"AMC Theatres said it will not let guests bring costumes, face-covering masks or fake weapons into the movies. The company added that anyone wanting a refund in light of this new policy will be granted one."
At the moment it is unclear whether AMC is making this change for screenings for The Dark Knight Rises or if this change will be permanent for all movies. For the safety of all guests, it is most likely just a matter of time before other theaters follow suit and start to change their costume polices as well. Whether these changes will be no costumes at all or no sort of armor or masks is yet to be known but after seeing the tragedy in Colorado, these changes are completely understandable.

I am a very big cosplayer myself and love to go to midnight showings in costume, but if these changes mean that I can go out with my friends and feel safe then I fully support them.
My thoughts go out to those effected by the tragic events in Colorado.

UPDATE (10:23pm, 7-20-12):
"Contrary to media reports, costumes are not banned, but we will not admit guests with face-concealing masks and we will not allow fake weapons in the buildings. We want all our guests to feel comfortable at our theatres and we will be closely monitoring."

  2. Even if they said no costumes it's not a huge thing we'd be giving up! I mean yes, within the HP community we are freaking KNOWN for our amazing cosplays at movies and the such, but as long as we are safe and secure and together everything is fine.
