M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth gets its first trailer! [video]

The trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's newest sci-fi adventure After Earth has hit the web and it is definitely at least getting the attention of fans. Fans have become weary of M. Night Shyamalan because of his last few films but this one looks to have promise. It can be argued that the film has an Avatar feel or [enter any film with large wild animals on a ravaged planet here]. The film stars Will Smith and his son Jaden and takes place 1,000 years in the future where humans have left the planet Earth and have settled elsewhere in the universe. The trailer has a voice over from Will Smith that is monotoned and makes fans wonder if it is setting up the serious tone of the film or if Will Smith's character is just that bland. Even still, my interest is peaked and I look forward to the next piece of news about After Earth.

Movie Synopsis:
"One thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity's escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind's new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai's craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance."
After Earth will hit theaters on June 7, 2013.

After watching the trailer, I can only wonder if Jaden Smith can carry the majority of the film on his own.
