University of Baltimore will offer a course on the Marvel cinematic universe!

If you happen to be attending the University of Baltimore then you can sign up for a recently added class that will study the Marvel cinematic universe! The university has added a course titled "Media Genres: Media Marvels" and this class will be available in the Sping of 2015 and "will scrutinize the intricately plotted world of Marvel films".

The course will focus on all the Marvel films from Iron Man to Guardians of the Galaxy. The professor of the course, Arnold T. Blumberg, had the following to say about the class:
"One thing we’ll do is dive into the impact of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film, which proved two things: Mainstream movie audiences are not remotely tired of superhero movies; and Marvel Studios can now release a sci-fi adventure that actually features talking trees and raccoons. It’s not that they’re getting away with it—they’ve created a universe in which fans completely accept these developments, and they’re ready for even more."
This kind of course is not unheard of as there have been course teaching the Rubix Cube, Harry Potter, The Walking Dead, and others. What is cool about this however is that it shows how mainstream geek culture is becoming. Arnold T. Blumberg continued by stating:
"This series not only provides action-packed entertainment but also profound statements about the nature of heroism, the great responsibilities that come with wielding great power, our willingness to trade freedom for security, and much more. Every generation has a modern media mythology that serves as a framework for entertaining as well as educating about ethics, morality, issues of race, gender, class, and so on."
This seems really cool and I would love to see how this course is. I know if I was a student at the University of Baltimore that I would sign up!
