George R.R. Martin loved Ant-Man but speaks out against Marvel villains.

Author George R.R. Martin took a little time to himself recently to head to the movies to check out the new Marvel film Ant-Man. He created a LiveJournal post talking about his thoughts and overall he absolutely loved it. However, he did make some very interesting points concerning Marvel villains that show you he is not a fan of the cinematic villains that have been portrayed.

Find out George R.R. Martin's thoughts inside the full article.

Martin makes he clear that he is an absolute Marvel fanboy and talks about what he loved in the film in his new LiveJournal post. He even mentions that he was a Merry Marvel Marching Society member. (A fan club started by Marvel in 1964.) It is a good read that I recommend checking out. However, he also mentions what he dislikes about current Marvel villains. While speaking about the "quibbles" that he had with Ant-Man he says,

"Quibbles? Yeah, a few. Where was the Wasp? We got a few glimpses, and a set up for the next film. But I wanted more Wasp, and I loved the old original Hank/ Janet dynamic (before they got to the wife-beating stuff). Also, while Yellowjacket makes a decent villain here (in the comics, of course, he was actually one of Hank's later identities, after Giant-Man and Goliath), I am tired of this Marvel movie trope where the bad guy has the same powers as the hero. The Hulk fought the Abomination, who is just a bad Hulk. Spider-Man fights Venom, who is just a bad Spider-Man. Iron Man fights Ironmonger, a bad Iron Man. Yawn. I want more films where the hero and the villain have wildly different powers. That makes the action much more interesting)."

While others have pointed this flaw in Marvel villains out it still holds a lot of weight. I am also not a big fan of so many Marvel villains becoming a one shot villain in that they are there for the one film and easily beat and gone.

Do you agree with Martin's thoughts on Marvel villains? Have any quibbles of your own about Marvel villains?
