Lucasfilm has confirmed the new Star Wars trilogy will continue the Skywalker family saga.

It has of course been known that Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa would be returning to the franchise for Star Wars: The Force Awakens but we haven't known whose story we would be wayching. Now, it has been confirmed by Lucasfilm that the new, upcoming Star Wars trilogy will continue to tell the Skywalker saga. This confirmation comes from the Head of Lucasfilm and Star Wars executive producer Kathleen Kennedy.

Tied to this news was a very interesting distinction between the trilogy films known as the "saga" and the stand alone "Anthology" films. While talking to Costo Connection Kennedy stated,
"“The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga. The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six film. ‘The Force Awakens’ follows ‘Return Of The Jedi’ and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the ‘Star Wars’ Universe.”
I like the idea that the main trilogies will be focused on one central family. The prequel trilogy was centered around Anakin, the original trilogy centered around Luke,  and the new trilogy will be centered on the next generation Yhe question is who though? My original thought was that it would be Rey (Daisy Ridley).

Who do you think could be the next Skywalker? Do you like the distinction between the two sets of films?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be in theaters on December 18, 2015.
