Star Wars' new Chewbacca actor takes a moment to say thank you to fans and Peter Mayhew.

Actor Peter Mayhew has been playing the role of Chewbacca in Star Wars films since 1977 and since his first appearance, Chewbacca has become an iconic character in cinema. This is due to how well Peter Mayhew brought the character to life without a single word. However, when filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mayhew shared the role of Chewbacca with actor Joonas Suotamo. This was done to help ease the scheduling for Mayhew who was having issues walking due to bad knees which he was having operations on. However, with the Han Solo standalone film shooting Mayhew has officially passed the mantle of Chewbacca on to Suotamo.

In light of officially becoming the new Chewbacca, Suotamo took a moment to say a few words of thanks to his fans, supporters, and most notably, Peter Mayhew.

This short letter with the acknowledgment to Peter is a classy move. Welcome to the Star Wars family, Joonas. *Wookie fist bump*
