In a surprise move, Sony Pictures has just announced that they have cast actor Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as a young Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted film.

The hit video game Uncharted has been trying to get a film adaptation for some time now but it seems that Sony is making a big push for it now. The film is being rewritten to now be a prequel story starring a younger Nathan Drake as he grows up into the treasure hunter that fans know and love.

Directed by Shawn Levy, this new film story is being inspired by a flashback sequence in the video game Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception where gamers see a young Drake as a thief and his first encounter with Victor Sullivan, a treasure hunter and fortune seeker who would soon become a mentor and father figure to Nathan.

"This reformulation of the franchise was an inspiration of Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman after seeing the latest cut of the Spider-Man film, sources said."
Sony must have a lot of confidence in Tom Holland to not only have him as a star in another franchise but to rewrite the film to include him as the star.

Are you excited about this new direction that Uncharted is taking? What do you think about the casting of Tom Holland?
